Organic cotton is one of the most used fibres in our garments. However, as of 2022, just 1,4%* of the cotton produced globally is certified organic.
To support organic agricultural practices for cotton farming, we have engaged in a direct-to-farm project launched by our parent company BESTSELLER. The project brings us closer to the farmers and cuts away intermediaries to support transparency and better conditions for the farmers.
Tracing and verifying cotton’s organic credentials can be challenging. When sourcing the cotton directly from the farm, we know where our raw materials come from and how they are grown. In fact, we can track the organic cotton’s journey through our entire supply chain; from it is harvested, processed and spun into yarns to it is sewn into garments by our manufacturers and ultimately arrives at our warehouse ready to hit the store shelf.
This traceability helps us shorten our supply chain, as we can strive to keep every step of this process as close to the fibre’s origin as possible.
The direct-to-farm project with BESTSELLER connects us to more than 7000 farmers in India. Aside from ensuring premium payment for the farmers, the programme also invests in hands-on training to help them grow their business.
The farmers in these programmes see observable benefits to crop and soil health of their land, while the environmental impact from cotton production is lowered through reduced use of agrochemicals and promotion of water-efficient growing practices.
